A District of Columbia insurance producer license, resident or nonresident
Fourteen jurisdictions on this site issue a managing general agent license and several others record the role as an eligibility a licensed producer already has rather than a license of its own. The District looks like the second group and belongs to the first, and it is its fee schedule rather than its statute that settles it. D.C. Code 31-1502(a) says only that nobody may act as a managing general agent for risks in the District unless they are a licensed broker here, which on its own is the Iowa shape: an eligibility somebody already holds rather than a license. DISB then goes further than its own statute. Its producers page states that "The District of Columbia also offers a producer's license with authorities of Managing General Agent (MGA) and Reinsurance Intermediary (RI) for both resident and nonresident applicants", requires a producer license underneath if the applicant is not already licensed, and asks every applicant for proof of a bond of $100,000 and an errors and omissions policy of $1,000,000. Its fee schedule then prices the authority on its own, at $300 biennially for a firm and $300 for an individual, against $100 for the producer license that carries it. No examination and no course: the District gives six papers and none of them is this. Sections 31-1502(c) and (d) leave the bond and the errors and omissions cover to the Commissioner's discretion, and the figures above are the Department exercising it.

Nothing is sold for it and nothing could be. The District sets no examination and no course for this authority: what it asks for is a producer license underneath, a $100,000 bond and $1,000,000 of errors and omissions cover.
