The Connecticut Producer: Travel (P.A. 187 - Limited Lines) license
Producer: Travel (P.A. 187 - Limited Lines)
Sells travel insurance and nothing else, and keeps a register of the travel agencies selling it on the licensee's behalf. At $750 to apply and $650 to renew it is the dearest producer license Connecticut issues, and it takes neither a course nor a paper.

For a business entity, an employee who holds a Connecticut insurance producer license, designated as the individual responsible for the entity's compliance and for supervising its designated travel retailers, under Conn. Gen. Stat. 38a-398(b)(3)(A)
The Department answers the education question with one word, "None", and the examination vendor gives no travel paper. Conn. Gen. Stat. 38a-398(b)(1)(A) is the granting sentence and it asks for an application, the fee and, for a business entity, fingerprint compliance from the designated employee and from the president, secretary, treasurer and anybody else directing the insurance operations. Two things sit on the licensee afterwards rather than on the applicant beforehand. 38a-398(b)(2) makes a business entity licensee "establish and maintain a registry" of its designated travel retailers, updated annually, carrying each retailer's name, address, contact, federal tax identification number and a certification that it has not done anything 18 USC 1033 prohibits. 38a-398(b)(4) makes the licensee train every employee and authorized representative of those retailers on the types of travel insurance offered, ethical sales practices and the disclosures owed to a buyer. The person trained is the retailer's counter staff and not the applicant, which is why the training is not a route here. The statute also sets no term for the authorization, saying it stays in force until the commissioner suspends or revokes it; the Department renews it every two years anyway.

There is no Connecticut travel examination and no travel course to approve, so there is nothing for a school to sell. The training the licensee has to give under Conn. Gen. Stat. 38a-398(b)(4) is a duty owed to the staff of its own designated travel retailers rather than a qualification the applicant buys. No national seller offers a Connecticut travel product.
