The Connecticut Reinsurance Intermediary Broker & Manager license

Reinsurance Intermediary Broker & Manager

Places reinsurance for a ceding insurer, or manages a reinsurer's assumed business. Connecticut issues one license covering both roles, on one fee, and it sits on top of an active producer license.

The Department states both zeros in its own words on this license's page, "No pre-licensing course is required" and "No examination is required", and asks for the producer license instead. Conn. Gen. Stat. 38a-760b(a) and (b) are the granting sentences and both are written as prohibitions on acting without a producer license here, with the alternative for somebody keeping an office in another state being a producer license there under a substantially similar law or a Connecticut non-resident reinsurance intermediary license. 38a-760b(d)(1) is what makes this one file rather than two: the commissioner issues "a reinsurance intermediary license" to anybody who has complied with the Act, and the fee schedule at 38a-11(a)(22) prices reinsurance intermediaries once, at $625 for each license issued or renewed. A license issued to a firm or association covers all its members and named designated employees; one issued to a corporation covers its officers, named designated employees and directors. 38a-760b(c) lets the commissioner ask a manager for a bond and for errors and omissions cover and fixes no figure for either, and 38a-760b(f) exempts Connecticut attorneys acting in their professional capacity from the section entirely. A non-resident applicant also files a power of attorney designating the commissioner as agent for service of process.

Connecticut requires no course and gives no examination for this license, so there is nothing to prepare for. No national seller offers a Connecticut reinsurance intermediary product. A reader who needs the producer license underneath it will find the courses on the producer line pages.
