Colorado conditions this line on two other things and examines it not at all. Section 10-2-407(1)(c), C.R.S. makes variable life and variable annuity products a line of authority; the candidate handbook requires an active Life license first or an application for both together, and asks for the CRD number so Pearson VUE can verify the FINRA registration. The examination question is settled twice over: section 10-2-403(1)(f) exempts a licensed life insurance producer applying for a variable contracts license from the written examination, the handbook's table of lines qualifying by examination does not list it, and the resident licensing matrix prints not a tick but the words Life against both its exam scores and its prelicensing training columns. The Life paper and the Life fifty hours stand behind this line; nothing of its own does.

A license for the Variable Life and Variable Annuity Products line of authority, previously held in Colorado or in another state
Section 10-2-403(1)(a), C.R.S. exempts an applicant previously licensed for the same lines of authority "in this state or another state" from both prelicensing education and the examination. The currently-licensed, twelve-month and good-standing conditions that follow are introduced with "This exemption is only available to a nonresident applicant if", so they bind a nonresident and the statute puts no clock on a resident. Pearson VUE states the same waiver more narrowly in the candidate handbook, at ninety days rather than twelve months, and asks for a Letter of Clearance from the previous resident state where the National Producer Database cannot verify the license.
