The Arkansas Surplus Lines Broker license

Surplus Lines Broker

Places cover with an insurer Arkansas has not admitted. Its $1,035 application fee is the largest single figure on the Arkansas schedule, twice the $500 the managing general agent pays, and it takes three years of holding a property and casualty license first.

Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Hold multi-line authority for three years, post a $50,000 bond and pass the paper

    State exam required

    The underlying license

    • 3 years A current Multi-line (Property and Casualty) producer license in Arkansas or another state

    and a surety bond

    • A surety bond in the amount of $50,000, filed with the Department

and affiliation with an Arkansas broker firm

    • Documentation of the applicant's affiliation with a licensed Arkansas broker firm or corporation, which the examination vendor says the application form requires

The examination vendor sets out the whole list and the Department sends applicants to it: three years of multi-line authority here or anywhere, a $50,000 surety bond, a finding of competence and trustworthiness, an application documenting affiliation with a licensed Arkansas broker firm, and the Arkansas Surplus Lines paper, which is $50 and two hours and may not be sat with any other examination. The $1,035 application fee is payable by check to the national registry rather than to the Department. There is no course: surplus lines brokers are one of the four groups Rule 31 exempts from pre-licensing education outright, alongside insurance consultants, a producer or adjuster moving here in good standing under the Producer Licensing Model Act, and an adjuster holding a current certification from a claims association the Commissioner has approved as a continuing education provider.
