Procuring insurance from an insurer holding no Arizona certificate of authority, for a person whose home state under A.R.S. 20-401(6) is Arizona, after determining the coverage is not readily available from an Arizona-authorized insurer
No pre-licensing course and no separate examination in the Department's requirements. What it does ask for is fingerprints from each principal where the applicant is organized in Arizona and holds no Arizona producer license, is relocating here, or is not licensed at home with substantially similar authority. An industrial insured as defined at A.R.S. 20-401.07(C) is outside the license entirely. Two things a reader should know before applying. There is a narrower license for one case: somebody selling, soliciting or negotiating alien insurance only for coverage in Mexico under A.R.S. 20-422 applies for a Mexican Insurance Surplus Lines Broker license instead. And since 2020-01-01 every surplus lines tax report is produced through the Surplus Line Association of Arizona system and filed and paid through the NAIC's OPTins, with no paper route. Renewing this authority alongside an adjuster license adds $1,000, the largest add-on the Department charges.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Arizona sets no surplus lines examination and no course. Two sellers carry surplus lines products in other states and neither lists one here.
