Appointment by an insurer under AS 21.27.100, and a register of every person transacting travel insurance on the licensee’s behalf, with that person’s identity and contact details, the identity of whoever directs or controls them, and that controller’s federal employment identification number
AS 21.27.150(a)(1) issues the license to a person appointed under AS 21.27.100 who sells travel insurance. AS 21.27.060(d)(1) is what makes this license different from the other limited lines: it exempts an applicant for a limited license under AS 21.27.150(a)(1), (4), (5) or (8) from the examination entirely. Travel, motor vehicle rental agency, the nonresident limited producer and portable electronics are the four. Bail bond, title, credit, miscellaneous and crop are not on that list, so Alaska examines five of its nine limited lines and excuses four, which is the sharpest split of this kind on the site. What the licensee carries instead of an examination is other people: AS 21.27.152 lets anybody who makes, arranges or offers travel services transact travel insurance on this licensee’s behalf without a license of their own, provided they are on the register, and AS 21.27.152(f) makes the licensee liable for everything they do. The licensee also has to put each of them through a training program covering the type of insurance offered, ethical practices and the required disclosures, which the director may review. That is the employer-duty shape this site has met in Texas, Delaware, Iowa, Michigan and Rhode Island, and Alaska writes it with the liability attached. An unlicensed travel retailer may not interpret terms, advise on existing cover, or hold themselves out as an insurer, a producer or an expert.

No national seller sells a course for this license. There is nothing to prepare for: Alaska excuses this limited line from the examination by name, and the training the counter staff get comes from the licensee rather than from a school.
