Keeps a producer’s or managing general agent’s book of business running after a death, a disability or a call-up. Ninety days, renewable once, and it is the one Alaska license granted to somebody who has not passed the examination.

  1. Route 1 Stand in for a producer who has died, been disabled or gone into the armed forces

    No state exam for this license

    • The surviving spouse, next of kin, administrator or executor of a deceased licensed insurance producer or managing general agent; the spouse, next of kin, employee or legal guardian of one disabled by sickness, mental illness or injury; a surviving member, officer or employee of a licensed firm on the death of the compliance officer holding the same licenses as the firm; or the designee of a licensed producer entering active service in the armed forces, and then only for insurance relating to insurers the licensee was acting for

    AS 21.27.390(a) is the only place in the chapter where the examination is waived without anything standing in its place: the director may issue a temporary license to somebody who meets all the qualifications for a permanent license "except for experience, training, or the taking of an examination". What limits it instead is who may ask. The list is four contingencies and no more, all of them about somebody else’s license rather than the applicant’s own career. It runs 90 consecutive days and may be renewed or reissued once for one further 90-day period, and AS 21.27.390(c) stops it being used to open new relationships: a temporary licensee may not be appointed by an insurer that had not already appointed the producer or managing general agent at the time of the death or the start of the disability. 3 AAC 23.100(a)(1) exempts it from continuing education. 3 AAC 31.020(a)(4) prices it at $75, the same as every ordinary producer license, and the fee regulation naming it is the second document that says the division issues one.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Nothing could: it is granted precisely because the holder has not taken an examination, it lasts ninety days, and nobody applies for it in advance.
