Rent private passenger or light cargo vehicles without operators, under agreements no longer than 90 days, and notify the director in writing within 30 days of employing anybody authorized to transact insurance on the company’s behalf, with that employee’s name, date of birth, social security number, work location and home address
AS 21.27.150(a)(4) is the longest paragraph in the limited license section and almost all of it is boundaries rather than qualifications. The vehicles have to be rented without operators and be private passenger vehicles, vans, minivans and sport utility vehicles, or cargo vehicles under 26,000 pounds that need no commercial driver’s license. No rental agreement may run past 90 days. And the kinds of insurance are a closed list of six: liability arising out of the use of the rented vehicle, uninsured and underinsured motorist cover at the AS 21.96.020 minimums, medical and disability and funeral benefits issued as incidental or supplemental cover, personal effects insurance including loss of use, towing and roadside assistance, and anything else the director adds by regulation. AS 21.27.060(d)(1) is what makes this license different from the other limited lines: it exempts an applicant for a limited license under AS 21.27.150(a)(1), (4), (5) or (8) from the examination entirely. Travel, motor vehicle rental agency, the nonresident limited producer and portable electronics are the four. Bail bond, title, credit, miscellaneous and crop are not on that list, so Alaska examines five of its nine limited lines and excuses four, which is the sharpest split of this kind on the site. The employees are not licensed; the company notifies the director who they are, which is the same shape as the portable electronics vendor two paragraphs down.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Nothing could: the license goes to the rental company, Alaska excuses it from the examination by name, and the people selling at the counter are notified to the director rather than qualified.
