The Alabama Temporary Producer license

Temporary Producer

Six months to sell before sitting the examination, sponsored and appointed by an insurance company that has registered its own officials to grant it. Once in a lifetime per line of authority, and it is on the Department's own list of what it issues, which is why it has a page here when other states' temporary licenses do not.

Every way to qualify

  1. Route 1 Be sponsored and appointed by an insurance company

No state exam for this license

The sponsoring company, and who inside it may act

    • Sponsorship and appointment by an insurance company that has registered at least two and no more than three authorized company officials with the Department, who are the only people permitted to apply online for its temporary producer applications

    and otherwise qualified, examination aside

    • Being an Alabama resident otherwise qualified for a producer license except for having passed the written examination, for the life, health, property, casualty or personal lines line of authority applied for

The Department's page defines it as somebody "otherwise qualified for a producer license except as to having passed the written examination", available for life, health, property, casualty and personal lines. Three limits run with it: it is valid only while the sponsoring company's appointment stands, it is "a once in a lifetime license per line of authority", and it lasts a maximum of six months from issue. Once issued, the holder may also be appointed by any affiliated insurer. This is the first temporary producer license to get a page in this phase and the reason is the rule rather than the license. Rhode Island's, Maine's 1420-J and Oregon's ORS 744.073 were all left out because none of them appears on those departments' own lists of what they issue; Alabama's is on its Licensing Requirements page with its own fee of $120. The insurer registration form for the authorized officials is the Department's own and is filed by email or fax.

No national seller sells a course for this license, and the license exists precisely to let somebody sell before studying. The products for the line of authority itself are on that line's own page, and the temporary holder has six months to use them.
