The Alabama Reinsurance Intermediary license
Reinsurance Intermediary
One license covering both roles: the broker who places cessions without power to bind, and the manager who binds or manages a reinsurer's assumed business. Only the manager posts a bond, and Alabama sizes it per reinsurer represented.

An original fidelity bond of $100,000, with a separate bond filed for each reinsurer represented, and a copy of the intermediary's errors and omissions policy; neither is asked of the broker role
Chapter 5A of Title 27 governs and the Department issues one license on one form, AL-RI-1, for both roles. The broker solicits, negotiates or places cessions or retrocessions for a ceding insurer "without the authority or power to bind reinsurance"; the manager has authority to bind or manages all or part of a reinsurer's assumed business. The bond is per reinsurer, not per licensee, which is unusual: $100,000 each, with the Department stating in its own note that a separate bond must be filed for each reinsurer represented. Maine leaves the bond to the superintendent's discretion at 742(5), Idaho at 41-5103(3) and Washington at RCW 48.94.010(3) do the same, and Hawaii asks for none; Alabama makes it mandatory for the manager and multiplies it. $170 to apply, being a $30 application fee and a $140 license fee, and $100 a year to renew. No examination, no course and no experience bar.

No national seller sells a course for this license. Chapter 5A sets no examination, no course and no experience bar; the manager's fidelity bond is the only thing standing between an applicant and the license.
